Demodara Nine Arch Bridge

The Demodara Nine Arch viaduct was built between two railway stations - Ella and Demodara. Built during the British colonial period, it is still the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka.

Located approximately 3100 feet above sea level, this 100 foot high bridge is built entirely of solid blocks of rock, bricks and cement without the use of a single length of steel. The bridge was commissioned in 1921 and has evolved into one of the most sought after of places to visit in Ella.
