Bird watching

Bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted to observe that the 98 Acres Resort provides sanctuary for 27% or 63 species of the resident birds of Sri Lanka, including 6 precious species endemic to the country. All these birds are reported to be forest birds and their existence is naturally protected within the environs in this 98 acre tea cultivation and 10 acre forest reserve. Out of those 63 bird species, birds such as Woodpeckers, Babblers, Barbets, Flycatchers, Minivit, and Chestnut headed Bee-eaters and Hill Mynas are the types of birds commonly seen in this location. Click Here to download a detailed description of our bird watching programme which features among the many things to see in Ella and the checklist of birds that can be seen at 98 Acres Resort & Spa. Click here to view the profile of the renowned Sri Lankan wildlife enthusiast Mr. R K Widanagamage who toiled tirelessly for three months to conduct a comprehensive research on the birds residing in the premises of the 98 Acres Resort. His research report includes a detailed description of each bird living in the 98 acres tea estate and the adjoining forest area. Your stay with us at the resort will give you the opportunity to observe and see for yourself a wide variety of bird species taking residence in and around the area.
